Upgrading the Learning Center

On Friday, January 22, 2016, we will be upgrading Moodle, the application on which the Learning Center runs.  During this time, the website will be down and unavailable to all users.  Please adjust your plans accordingly.

For more information on the exciting new changes, please visit the official Moodle documentation.

A second post will be issued when the upgrade is complete.

Thank you for your patience.

Learning Center is Upgraded!

I am pleased to announce that the OC Learning Center now runs on Moodle 2.6, the latest Moodle system.  With this upgrade comes a number of very exciting improvements to the system as well as to the Learning Center itself.

Check out the video below to find out more about the improvements that come along with Moodle 2.6.

Aside from the improvements mentioned in the video the Learning Center will also undergo several improvements.

New Buttons: The first thing you’ll probably notice is that the home page looks a little bit different.  On the home page, you’ll find three new buttons to help you navigate to the three most important areas in the website: My Home, Courses, and Community.

Learning Center Buttons

Community Forum: There is tremendous value in critical discussion.  The greatest learning occurs in the natural challenging of ideas in the course of discussion.  The OC Learning Center provides a forum for all of our missionaries and participants to come together for discussion.  Ask questions, state an opinion, request feedback on your ideas, whatever you want to talk about, talk about it!

Learning Center Blog:  The learning center blog has been a feature of the Learning Center for quite some time, but now you can check out the latest news from the blog right on the home page of the Learning Center.  Get a short summary of what’s new or follow the link to read more on the blog itself.

Help and FAQ:  When you’re confused, lost, and frustrated, there is nothing better than finding a solution to the problem.  There is now a “Help” page to help you find the answers to your questions.  There is also a Frequently Asked Questions page that might prove useful.  When all else fails you can ask your OCLC administrator for help at oclcadmin@oci.org.

Thank you for your patience and we hope you’ll enjoy and benefit from the many improvements that this upgrade brought.

Head to the OC Learning Center to check out these improvements for yourself.  Let us know what you think of the new features here or in the comments below.

OC Learning Center Website Down May 2

On  Friday, May 2nd,  we will be upgrading the OC Learning Center.  You will not be able to access or use the website that day.  Please be sure to adjust your learning needs to avoid the website that day.  Thank you for your patience.

On Saturday, May 3rd, there will be a number of other changes being made to the website but it will be available to use.  You may see changes occurring as you learn, but these changes will not affect your work.

This particular upgrade will take us from Moodle 2.1 to Moodle 2.6.  There are a number of exciting improvements in this newer version that will really assist the Learning Center in providing quality opportunities so that you may continue learning in the midst of your ministry.  Check out the video below to find out more about the improvements in this upgrade:

Every year Moodle is updated and improved by a great group of teachers and programmers in Australia.  So every year we are going to be upgrading the Learning Center.  Thank you for your patience.  We will post again when the site is available for you to use.

Update: Due to miscommunication with the hosting company, the upgrade has been postponed until Wednesday May 7 at 6:00 am Mountain Time.  Barring unforeseen difficulties, the website should be up and running by 12:00 pm on Wednesday.  We apologize for the inconvenience.
